Trinidad Records 25% Decline In Crime Compared To Previous Year

Media channels in Trinidad and Tobago are reporting that the Trinidad and Tobago police service (TTPS) has recorded for the period January to September 2020, there has been a 20-25 percent reduction in crime compared to the same period in 2019. Speaking to the media, police commissioner Gary Griffith stated "We've come to the end of the third quarter  of this year and what we have achieved...today is the first time in the history that there's been 100 less murders at any time in a year in comparison to the same period last year." Griffith said that hopefully this pattern can continue and thanked the public for their participation and cooperation.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jayson Forde said he has noted more cooperation by witnesses to provide information for various crimes as well as increased patrols. The TTPS said additionally the use of CCTV and other technological developments such as the TTPS app have also assisted with helping the public reach out to the police service.
