Nailah, Swappi, Ultimate Rejects Bring D Steelpan Vibez for Trini Carnival 2020

More Sokah x Jumbie Head

Trinidadian Soca stars Nailah Blackman and Swappi wasted no time with early Carnival releases with heavily influenced songs geared towards the Steelpan instrument.

Nailah's song "More Sokah" has the traditional steelpan influence you will hear in vintage Calypso songs from icons Lord Kitchener and Original Defosto. This is not her first time releasing a Soca that is more on the side of the steelpan sound. In her previous releases "Iron Love" and "Sokah" she paid tribute to Trinidad and Tobago national instrument with a heavily steelpan influenced sound.

Swappi together with the Ultimate Rejects paid tribute to recently deceased Soca icon Mighty Sparrow with their heavily steelpan influenced release "Jumbie Head". With Swappi voicing the song imitating the lyrical sound and flow of Shadow this is something special. Jumbie is a Trinbagonian term referring to a spirit of a dead person.

We expect many Steelbands in Trinidad and Tobago to choose one of these tunes when they compete for the annual Panorama Championships during this upcoming Trinidad Carnival 2020 season.
